Sewing into Spring

Take a class or workshop at the Indianapolis Art Center

Started in 1934 as a WPA project, the Indianapolis Art Center continues to live its mission to employ professional artists and engage, enlighten and enhance our communities through art education, participation and observation.

Did you know you can take a workshop with one of Ralph Lauren’s milliners here? You can! And, as far as we know, we’re the only place in the country that teaches the art of making paper quilts. Let us hear from you if we’re not! Where else can you study Bronson Lace, Swedish Lace and Huck Lace by one of only 27 Master Weavers in North America? Right here at the Art Center is where!

Sign-up now for one of these remarkable opportunities to take a class or workshop with these artists…or ask Santa to sign you up!

We will learn some theory behind those beautiful fabrics and discover a new language of weaving terms. We will learn to draft patterns and create multiple "looks" with a single warp. Students will learn to prepare a 4-shaft loom for weaving and weave small samplers of various colors and patterns such as twill, overshot, lace and plain weave. Instructor will conduct informal lectures, facilitate group discussions, and demonstrate technique. The controlled, free-spirited method of low-water immersion dying comes from Ann Johnston's Color By Accident and Bobbie's 17 years of dye playing.
